February 2016: Time for Action by Annie Botticelli
February has its own set of notable transits outlined below, but two of the most important things to note about the month have to do with things occurring
throughout the year.
First let’s place February in the astrological line-up for
the year. A bird’s eye view of the calendar year shows us the short windows of opportunity where a personal planet is not retrograde. This year we will have four Mercury retrograde transits and one Mars retrograde transit. When these personal planets go retrograde, things slow down on a very personal level. The Universe wants us to focus on things more internal, and the over-busy, over-scheduled, disconnected-from-self-and-spirit way of being in the world receives huge tests. So when we are making big plans or long-term decisions in an attempt to move things forward in life, more assertive and outward actions are generally better timed with the forward movement of the planets closest to us. Half of February is technically affected by the return of Mercury back to full steam from being retrograde in January, but even still, there are many potentials for forward movement in this month that must be capitalized on, as the “going back over things” energy is so prominent through most of the rest of the year. February 3, 8, 9, 10 and 13 have amazing potential for breaking out of ruts and blazing forward into the next level of experience. This is true even though Mercury isn’t at full capacity.
The second major influences to consider are the eclipses of March 2016. Eclipses often bring dramatic and life-altering events. The actual events are: the Solar Eclipse at 18° of Pisces on March 8 and the Lunar Eclipse at 3°of Libra on March 23. Eclipses often start to tell their stories with events and news up to six weeks before the actual transit, placing all of February in the prime time to start receiving word of the changes in store. Eclipses can often bring “Divine Intervention.”
There is often a huge difference between our plan for ourselves and the plan the Universe has for us. February is a great time to attempt to move forward with what we think is good for us, then pay close attention to see if the eclipses bring suggested or mandated changes towards or away from those personal plans.

** Note that often the effects of planetary transits are felt before or after the actual day the transit occurs.
February 3 — Mars in Scorpio Sextile Pluto in Capricorn — This transit brings unwavering determination and unstoppable energy towards a goal. Although Mercury isn’t completely clear of its shadow period, this marks a great time to move forward on something important.
Sun in Aquarius Sextile Saturn in Sagittarius — The combination of these energies brings stability and focus on long-term commitments. It is a serious and practical focus that can lay a wonderful foundation for important projects and decisions.
February 5-6 — Venus, Pluto, and Moon Conjunct with Venus and Moon Square Uranus — This is a very noteworthy time! There are so many powerful forces at play in these several days. The conjunction of Venus and Pluto brings powerful experiences involving love, beauty, or money. The Moon’s involvement ups the emotional ante. Uranus in a challenging angle brings the aspect of a jostling surprise factor.
February 6 — Sun in Aquarius Sextile Uranus — The Sun’s beautiful aspect to Uranus can help to smooth the feathers ruffled by this planet of unpredictability. Perhaps a happy ending or calm comes after some major emotions or drama.
Mercury in Capricorn Trine Jupiter in Virgo —
Expression, communication, transportation and all their possible modes get a major boost from the Great Expander, Jupiter. Always the caution here is to beware of over-promising or other extension of self or services in a way that can’t be followed through.
February 7 — Sun in Aquarius Square Mars in Scorpio — The need to over-assert oneself can result in arguments or injury now. There is strong restlessness that comes with this connection of planetary energies, which can be used productively if reason and care are alongside any actions.
Venus in Capricorn Sextile Mars in Scorpio — This is an awesome time for anything that blends the merging of feminine and masculine forces within oneself or between people. Romance, money and harmonious relations are all well-favored here, especially when taking into consideration the above mentioned transit with the Sun and Mars.
February 8 — New Moon in Aquarius (19°) — Make your New Moon wishes for everything on the topics of friends, acquaintances, any type of social connections, networking, teams, groups, large organizations, internet and internet-based projects, and big dreams and goals for your life. Stretch out your vision for yourself much further than seems possible.
February 9-10 — Venus in Capricorn Sextile Jupiter in Virgo — This is a great launch time for projects or commitment time for other endeavors. Venus, ruler of romance, finances and aesthetics, gets a great boost from the bringer of luck, expansion and growth.
February 13 — Mars in Scorpio Sextile Jupiter in Virgo — Another great energy for launching and commitments with this transit! The ruler of action and activity meets the luck-bringer in a beautiful aspect, bringing great potentials.
February 15 — Mercury Retrograde Post Shadow Period Ends — Mercury was retrograde January 5 through 25. It takes several weeks for it to regain full steam after this transit. Today is the day Mercury is completely back to itself.
February 22 — Full Moon in Virgo (3°) — Fullness, completion and fruition come to situations involving health, workplace or other daily experiences, and pets.
February 28 — Sun in Pisces Conjunct Neptune in Pisces — Everything Neptunian is amplified now with the warmth and light of the Sun. This is a great time for enhanced spiritual awareness, imagination and conscious connection to others and All-That-Is. Vague fears and doubts could also become amplified now. If this comes up, ask yourself the brilliant question that Byron Katie offers in her profound emotional healing course — “Is it even true?”
