3rd Chakra: Sunflower
Throughout history and ancient spiritual tradi- tions from Eastern religions to Western mysticism, including Christianity, a universal system — one of the oldest systems in the world has become known as the Chakra System. This system is composed of subtle life force energy centers within the human energy system.
Just as plants and flowers have an innate wisdom, so too does the human body. This wisdom is ex- pressed through the seven energy centers, or chakras, starting from the root at the base of the spine up to the crown at the top of the head. A color and fre- quency of light and sound vibrations are unique to each individual chakra. Flowers, like chakras, also embody colors and vibrations of light and sound.
In the next issues, I will discuss the seven chakras that people are most familiar with, even though there are many, and associate them with the ener- getic imprint of a flower and its essence.
In the March issue, the 2nd Energy Center or Chakra was discussed. Now we move onto the 3rd chakra:
Third Chakra:
Mental, Personal Power, or Solar Plexus
COLOR: Yellow
ENDOCRINE GLAND: Pancreas
SENSES: Intuition or Inner Knowing LOCATION & PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: The third chakra is related to the solar plexus area and includes the functions located there: the adrenals, pancreas, stomach, digestive sys- tem, assimilation process, liver, and gall blad- der; some of these functions are shared with the second chakra.
The pancreas is the endocrine gland as- sociated with the third chakra. As a digestive organ, the pancreas produces enzymes that aid in the digestion of food, breaking down protein, fats, and carbohydrates. As an en- docrine gland, the pancreas secretes insulin and glucagon to regulate blood sugar.
This energy center is also associated with the left hemisphere of the brain and its activities; while the brain is located in the sixth-chakra area of the body, it influences the functioning of the lower chakra areas. Mental imbalance, psychosomatic illnesses, ulcers, and intestinal/digestive malfunctions can be relieved by healing work or therapies applied through this center.
POSITIVE HEALING PATTERNS
Our relationship to the third chakra gives us our ability to think and reason, to find purpose and desire in life, and to empower ourselves to be who we need to be. This relationship helps us under- stand our thought dialogues in relation to our feelings. It strengthens our mind toward a state of stableness, courage, faith, hope, humor, and joy.
This energy center brings about a balanced mental state of responsibility, mental objectivity, and wisdom, teach- ing us to surrender the mind when needed, linking the rational mind with enhanced intuition. It gives us the cour- age and faith to trust and act upon our intuition.
The third chakra reveals a higher con- sciousness within the lower three chakras and an innate capability to understand self and others. It is the bond between the lower chakras and the heart, uniting love and harmony to empower the pro- cess of dissolving or decrystalizing old patterns.
In the third chakra, we come to terms with who we are, why we are here, what we have learned, and what we desire. This journey with and as our true selves leads to dignity and self-empowerment.
FLOWER: Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) Sunflower restores youth and inno- cence, fun and play, liveliness and plea-
sure. Brings life to the child within us and directs us toward purpose and posi- tive thought, joy, and humor. Gives us the ability to think and reason, to gather strength and power from deep within.
AFFIRMATION: I am empowered to create loving thoughts and circumstances from a place of joy, wisdom, and strength.
