She organized fundraisers to benefit the Symphony Guild, the Flagstaff Hospital and the Nativity Catholic Church. She established the Art Barn, Flagstaff’s first community arts center, in the 1960s. Later, she lobbied Coconino County to build the Coconino Center for the Arts. Ms. Babbitt died in 1994. She was 100 years old.

HOLIDAY ART MARKET
The Artists’ Coalition of Flagstaff is hosting a two-day Holiday Marketplace at the Elks Lodge, November 7-8, from 10AM to 4PM. The event will host 25 vendors with affordable original artworks and high-quality reproductions. There will be painting, photography, jewelry, ceramics, fiber arts, glass and much more. The Marketplace event is free to the public.
The Artists’ Coalition is moving to the Flagstaff Mall. ACF Gifts and Gallery will remain at Tam’s Boutique, 117 N. Beaver Street until they finalize the details of their move. flagstaff-arts.org
NORTHLAND ART EVENTS
The Artists Gallery of Flagstaff, 17 N. San Francisco, will feature five artists for the month of November. The Gallery in Williams is featuring an all-artist show in a fall-harvest theme. Co-owner Tom Williams has one of his three new life-sized, solid steel ravens on display, titled Raven Steals the Sun. The other two will be at the Coconino Center for the Arts for the annual “It’s Elemental,” show. Together, Mr. Williams’ three ravens represent over 700 hours of blacksmithing and welding. Red Tree Wholeness Center will be organizing an artisan market on Thursday, November 19, 5PM-8PM. Like last month, all artists are welcome to call and reserve their booth. Patricia Uding’s paintings will be on display at Firecreek Coffee during First Friday and the whole month of November. Ms. Uding comes from a family of artists, painters and carpenters. Besides painting, she works also in other media such as tile mosaics and furniture. She’s been an artist all her life, from her first mud pie as a little girl. She is a nature-inspired artist with influences from surrealists Jonathan Winters, R. Varo and M. Ernst. She suffers from progressive hearing loss, which allows her art to be much more visual and colorful than before. 928/774-2266
West of the Moon, 14 N. San Francisco, is featuring two artists this November. Sandy Thybony and Sid Martin are acrylic painters who express emotion through color.
