December 2017 ~ The Big Wrap-Up
BY ANNIE BOTTICELLI
E ven though we associate the end of the year as a time to “wrap things up,” the astrology at the end of any given year isn’t always conducive to that focus. However, at the end of 2017, there is much astrological indication that December
will be all about clearing out the old and making room for the new.
Mercury retrograde energies will be strong all month. In general, Mercury retro- grade brings previous projects, unfinished business, and issues, people, and situ- ations from the past back into the forefront. While occasionally something new and worth considering may pop up during this time, it will carry tones of some kind of relationship to the past, and it is a fine time to discuss the possibilities, but not the best time to commit or make firm agreements. There are some aspects to- wards the end of the month that suggest some serious long-term talks are occur- ring, and a consensus may be agreed upon, but try to leave some wiggle room in the arrangement when the pieces that are not yet considered or discussed come
up and shift some things.
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius increases the likelihood of additional themes
coming into focus, including: writing, editing, publishing, speaking, teaching, learning, religion/spirituality, different countries, languages, international travel, business, or other associations. Besides Mercury moving backward through the sector that rules all of these, much other personal planet energy in Sagittarius will bring extra opportunities and inner and outer projects to wrap up in these arenas. Sagittarius is known to be the most optimistic sign of the zodiac, and with plenty of activity in this sign this month, there will be lot of good times, fun, and adventure. Sagittarius energy is also known to be very scattered, so having some lists of things you are hoping to accomplish during this month can help in staying organized.
The light Sagittarius tone of the month starts to change toward the end, as Capricorn energies come into the forefront. Capricorn carries a serious energy, especially compared to light-hearted Sagittarius. Capricorn brings wonderful energy for focus, productivity, efficiency, goal attainment, and all things related to your place out in the world. This is great energy to put towards tax preparation.
Adding to the ‘Big Wrap Up’ energies this month is Saturn’s completion with its movement through Sagittarius, a transit that started December 2014. A major theme of this transit has been applying necessary work and organization to bring big dreams to fruition. There was also a good bit of “faith-testing.” Saturn is Cap- ricorn’s ruler, as such, it will likely be more comfortable and easier to manage as it moves into that sign. Projects worked on through Saturn’s tour through Sagit- tarius will likely shine bright in the coming years and new projects or expansion of things already launched will be well-supported.
There are so many wonderful transits this month, many of which have the element of surprise as part of their manifestation. Many of these sweet line-ups are also accompanied by squares with Chiron which can bring the typical self- doubt that comes when things are going well. Tune into intuition carefully, as opportunities arise before activating potentials, and know that you are worthy of everything good.
Sweet moments will likely roll in during the days around: December 2, 6, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 25, 27, and 28. Challenges will likely pop up in the days around: December 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 12, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, and 25.
Check out more December Highlights:
** Note: often the effects of planetary transits are felt before or after the actual day the transit occurs.
December 1 — Mars in Libra Opposing Uranus in Aries — Unpredictable and jarring behavior and clashes within relationships are likely at this time. Think very carefully before acting, especially where frustration or anger is involved. Backlash from hasty words or actions is likely now.
December 2 — Jupiter in Scorpio Trine Neptune in Pisces — This is the first of three exact line-ups of these outer planet titans. The others are May 25, 2018 and August 19, 2018. This cycle will likely correspond with the desire to use re- sources (inner and outer) for the betterment of all. It encourages a focus on the lesser-seen realms and aligning individual will with Divine Will. This theme of sur- rendering ego will to Higher forces and purpose can instigate massive change in individuals and the world. This beautiful combination could serve to soften the stressful aspects before and after it, making it easier to see and focus on the truly important things beyond superficial annoyances and pursuits.
December 2-3 — Mercury Retrograde at 29° of Sagittarius — Mercury
makes its last retrograde of the year, urging us to wrap things up and make room for the new. Miscommunications are more likely but at the same time the chance for a wonderful personal creative flow is increased, especially as it relates to short-term projects or finishing up old projects.
December 3 — Full Moon at 11° of Gemini — Fullness, completion, frui- tion, and possibly drama come to Gemini-related topics now — communica- tion and related devices, mobility, cars and other modes of transportation, relations or projects with siblings, cousins, uncles, aunts, neighbors; short- distance travel and trips. This full moon also accompanies a Sun in Sagittarius square Neptune transit, which can bring confusion or disappointment.
December 6 — Mercury in Sagittarius Conjunct Saturn in Sagittarius — Scattered energies are more easily drawn in at this time. Hard news could come in or alternatively information about long-term projects gelling in wonderful ways.
December 6 — Mercury in Sagittarius Sextile Mars in Libra — This transit could bring someone from the past to assist in finishing a project. This, along with a Mars/Saturn sextile today can add oomph to partnership flow.
December 10 — Mercury in Sagittarius Trine Uranus in Aries — Happy surprises are likely involving communication and transportation, technology, groups, communities, and large organizations. Mercury also squares Chiron bringing up vulnerabilities.
December 10 — Venus in Sagittarius Square Neptune in Pisces — Disil- lusionment and deception are likely in the areas of love and money with this transit. It is a great time to retreat into fun personal pursuits.
December 12 — Sun in Sagittarius Conjunct Mercury in Sagittarius —
This is a fantastic day for prolific expression and great news about any Sag- related ventures.
December 15 — Mercury in Sagittarius Conjunct Venus in Sagittarius — Flexibility or open communication can bring wonderful surprises now. This awesome aspect has a more challenging counterpart, as the Sun in Sagittarius makes a Square to Chiron, which could bring insecurity.
December 16 — Sun in Sagittarius Trine Uranus in Aries — Look out for wonderful surprises that can delight and inspire with this transit.
December 17-18 — New Moon at 26° of Sagittarius — This is a power- packed New Moon that is also conjunct Mercury, increasing the odds of im- portant information coming in or going out; and conjunct Venus, which brings the likelihood of love and money being part of the situation, trine Uranus, adding the element of happy surprise, conjunct Saturn bringing seriousness, sternness, or long-lasting potentials, and square Chiron, which can bring over- whelm and self-doubt. It is time to make your ten New Moon wishes on the topics of anything Sagittarius.
December 20 — Venus in Sagittarius Trine Uranus in Aries — This com- bination can bring happy surprises in love and money, but since Venus is also Square Chiron at the same time, advances in love or finances can bring up old insecurities.
December 21 — Sun in Capricorn Conjunct Saturn in Capricorn — This transit can come with a somber mood. Alternatively, it can be fantastic for business, long-term goal attainment, and productivity.
December 22 — Mercury Direct at 13° of Sagittarius — The Mercury retrograde transit ends today but the post-shadow period runs until January 12. Look out for more mishaps, miscommunications, and schedule shifts all month, but especially around the time Mercury turns retrograde (December 2) and the days around now, as it goes direct.
December 25 — Venus in Capricorn Conjunct Saturn in Capricorn —
Hard news in love or money or hits to self-esteem can come now. Alternatively, this can be amazing for business, work, or long-term relationships and goals.
December 27-28 — Mars in Scorpio Trine Neptune in Pisces — This tran- sit can bring delightful inspiration and deep insights. It is great for going on a creativity bender or bonding with someone else in wonderful ways.
