If you’ve spent a summer in Flagstaff, chances are you’ve heard the strains of lively samba echoing through the woods on a warm afternoon, or perhaps followed a procession of white and red clad percussionists as they wove their way through the streets. If you have — you’ve encountered Samba Tuque, a community samba group who welcomes all interested to join. They provide instruments and teach the technique and rhythms of samba during group practices. Their music draws from traditional rhythms of Africa, Brazil and Cuba.
On wednesday, April 13 at 7:15PM samba Tuque will be hosting an open rehearsal night at the Center for Indigenous Music and Culture, 213 s. san Francisco street. There will be a brief time for instruction followed by time to play as a group. This practice is free to attend. Bring earplugs! sambatuque.org
