FROM 22 ARTSBRIEFS:
ART IN WHEELER PARK RETURNS LABOR DAY
After a successful July event, Flag- staff Art in the Park resumes with the final installation of the biannual arts and crafts fair over Labor Day weekend. The Labor Day event will feature a different mix of 100 Southwest artisans, amongst them metalsmith Ed Kolle from Kanab, Utah; and Flagstaff stalwarts potter Joni Pevarnik and watercolorist Roberta Rogers who have participated in the Labor Day show since its inception 22 years ago.
“The main difference between the two events is there are many artists that are present at the Labor Day show that are not in the 4th of July fair,” says producer Stu Wolf. “So customers get to meet a large selection of totally different folks.”
Browsing the booths set up in down- town Flagstaff Wheeler Park, you will find almost every imaginable art form — jewelry, pottery, textiles, glass, photog- raphy, woodworking, handmade furni- ture — and meet the artists who make them. In addition to Ms. Pevarnik and Ms. Rogers, other Flagstaff artists in at- tendance include Katherine Farr, Adri- anne Dienno, Zac Kothrade, Ryanne Sebern and Baje Whitethorne.
Flagstaff Art in the Park also has food vendors, regional and local entertainers, bounce houses, and non-stop live mu- sic by local musicians throughout the 3-day event.
Flagstaff Art in the Park runs 9AM- 6PM Saturday August 30 and Sunday August 31; and 9AM-4PM Monday Sep- tember 1. For more information visit FlagstaffArtInThePark.com

ENJOYING THE PLEIN AIR OF GRAND CANYON
The annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art kicks off its 6th annual event with a week- long plein air event featuring some of the most renowned regional artists in the medium.
Conceived as a fundraiser to provide a per- manent venue for the display of Grand Can- yon National Park’s collection of art at South Rim, Arizona Plein Air Painters joined with the non-profit partner of the National Park, Grand Canyon Association, to invite se- lected artists from across the country to paint what is considered one of the most complex and difficult landscapes to render in the world.
Acting as artistic ambassadors, the selected painters work in the open air, allowing visitors to experience the canyon through the eyes of an artist. The selected artists paint for the week, two at North Rim, two at Phantom Ranch, and one at Indian Garden. Non-juried participants paint on the South Rim.
Flagstaff painter and avid canyon water- colorist and explorer, Robert Dalegowski (featured in the August edition), returns to the plein air festival for the fourth time as an invited artist, last year being one of the most successful selling artists. In 2011, he painted at South Rim, at North Rim in 2012, and down at Phantom Ranch in 2013. This year he will haul enough supplies, equipment and food for five days of camping and painting at Indi- an Garden, with an intention to complete two paintings a day and hike out to prepare the paintings for the show the next day. Mr. Dale- gowski will also be artist in resident at Grand Canyon South Rim for the month of April, 2015. Joining him as another selected artist from Flagstaff is oil painter Dawn Sutherland.
“Dawn and I share a fascination with Grand Canyon and paint there frequently,” says Mr. Dalegowski. “She was selected this year and
