Dear Readers,
After 50 plus issues over the last four and
a half years, I am passing on the torch as editor of It’s the Arts to Sarah Gianelli. I am excited to take a month off. In my years with the Noise I have only ever taken one break, to raft down the Colorado River for three weeks in February with a boatload of artists. A few years later I attempted to write my column from Bony England... and if you read “The Misadventures: Banned in the U.K,” you’ll recall why that didn’t work out.
I have thoroughly enjoyed writing “It’s the Arts,” these past years, from the early days when I’d religiously meet a handful of Flagstaff artists at the Pay N Take on Tues- days, then playing the role of muse and even appearing in a painting on the cov- er of the Noise, later as a subject in many of Gretchen Lopez’s plein air pieces, and most recently finding my own way of ex- pressing myself through assemblage art.
The artists I have shared coffee and lunches with, modeled for, painted little bits of murals with, and shared adventures and stories with have been an inspiration to write about, while seeing their art and the way they create has inspired me to cre- ation as well.
Every interaction has been a spring- board launching me forward into new facets of life, shaping my experiences and bringing me so much good.
While I retire from my role as Arts Editor, I still plan to be a part of the Noise and take on new writing roles as they present them- selves to me. This magazine is dear to me, and I hope to be a part of it as long as it ap- pears on the newsstand and in the hands of our treasured readers.
Love, Clair Anna Rose
