Circus Bacchus was first established in 2007 by a group of nAU friends who shared an interest in circus arts. now in 2015, though it’s hard to keep track, Circus Bacchus has an estimated 20 performers.
Featuring acts of daring — with performances incorporating flaming props: poi, fans, rope dart, fire clubs and hula hoop, Circus Bacchus also raises heartbeats with acts performed up in the air on Aerial silks, Cube, Corde de Lisse, Chains and Lyra. Dancers, jugglers and unicycle riders add to the ar- ray of talent showcased.
The first performances of the now quintessential group of Flagstaff’s performance arts scene began as back yard gigs and eight years later their shows have grown and the circus can be seen perform- ing around town all year, often partnering with Flagstaff Arts Council, The Orpheum and The Green Room — to name a few.
This summer they will once again be performing at the Flagstaff Hullabaloo on June 6 at wheeler Park in Downtown Flagstaff. This will be Circus Bac- chus’s fourth year performing at the festival. what began as a sideshow spinning fire in the parking lot is now scheduled to perform on the second stage. This year’s show debuts Corde De Lisse (or aerial rope) and features performances on stilts and vari- ous aerial apparatuses. If the season’s weather al- lows the circus hopes to bring the element of fire back into this year’s act.
Featured in accompanied photos is Lauren Reid on Aerial Chain, Eric Susak on the Cyr wheel, Mor- gan Louvier on Trapeze, Katie and Heather Giovale on Aerial silk, Willow Snider in The Cube, Rowan Snider in the Lyra, and the Circus Bacchus Band.
